‘Poor Things’ Takes Top Honor at Venice Film Festival

September 19, 2023 Sep. 19, 2023

Poor Things,” directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and color-graded by Greg Fisher, was awarded the prestigious Golden Lion for best film at the 80th Venice Film Festival. The announcement was no surprise as the film held its world premiere the night before and received a boisterous, 10-minute standing ovation.

The film, produced and starring Emma Stone, won the top prize at the 80th edition of the festival, which is often a predictor of Oscar glory. Stone plays Bella Baxter, alongside Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo, and Rahmy Youssef, as a young woman who goes on a journey of sexual awakening.

Poor Things is set for a U.S. release on December 8 and in the U.K. on January 12, 2024. For a complete list of Venice Film Festival winners, click here.
