Senior Finishing Editor Chad Schermerhorn started as a freelancer at Company 3 (then Deluxe NY) in 2015 and joined as staff in 2019. He also held Staff Positions at Harbor Picture Company and Postworks, where he made time during the night hours and on his own to master many of the key tools he continues to use for Finishing and VFX work today. His work can be seen on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Avengers: Endgame, and The Mandalorian.

Growing up in Troy, NY, Schermerhorn wanted to be part of the world of film production most of his life and earned his degree in the subject from Ithaca College. After graduation, he worked at his parents’ daycare business for a couple of years before moving to NYC to work in the commercial production world. His first position was in the post house Nice Shoes shipping department, where he learned what he calls the “ethics of collaboration”- the importance of developing relationships and the value of the human element in what could be seen as solo work. From there, he developed a wide mix of postproduction skills at some of the major post companies in New York at the time, including Click 3X, Slingshot, and The Mill. After several years, he decided to focus on long-form and, in 2009, joined the emerging Company 3.

Schermerhorn brings his many strengths, skills, and lifelong passion for the film industry to everything he does but finds particular satisfaction in his current position on long-form projects. He sees his role as something like that of a central copy editor who organizes and refines a large amount of material from multiple departments while carefully tracking a project’s overall progress.
